A native of Little Rock, Dr. Bowen graduated from Vanderbilt University with a B.S. in chemistry in 1977. Upon graduating with a degree in medicine from UAMS, he completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Dr. Bowen specializes in total shoulder, hip and knee replacement, as well as arthroscopic reconstruction of the knee and shoulder. His certifications include the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Bowen is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Orthopedics Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arkansas Medical Society. He has been published in the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery. As Chairman of the Board of Managers for Arkansas Surgical Hospital, Dr. Bowen is actively involved in decisions regarding overall patient care and growth of the facility. His private practice has spanned more than 40 years. Dr Bowen has been voted as one of the best doctors in orthopedic surgery in the Arkansas Times Best Doctors multiple times. He is married with three grown children and enjoys biking, hiking, tennis, hunting, scuba diving and running.
